Aerial-seeded plots are almost entirely dependent on timely rainfall after planting to work seed into the soil and support germination. If rain doesn't come soon after seeding, germination rates can be inconsistent.

Smaller or lighter seeds, along with some native grass mixes with fluffy, wind-catching seed heads, don't always spread evenly or fly true from a drone hopper. Site preparation and carrier selection are often more important with aerial seeding than with traditional planting methods.

This approach offers clear advantages in accessibility and efficiency, while eliminating the possibility of soil compaction. However, conventional equipment should be considered in select situations. Drone seeding delivers the greatest value on properties where terrain, vegetation, or wet conditions limit ground access, not as a blanket solution for every acre on the ranch.
Success with aerial seeding depends heavily on what's already happening on the ground. Freshly burned or disked areas with exposed soil will see far better germination than areas with heavy thatch or established grass competition.
